This is a big blow for Gujarat Giants, who will be facing Mumbai Indians in the inaugural encounter on March 4.

New Delhi: West Indian veteran all-rounder Deandra Dottin has been ruled out of the Women’s Premier League as she is “recovering from a medical situation”. This is a big blow for Gujarat Giants, who will be facing Mumbai Indians in the inaugural encounter on March 4. Australia all-rounder Kim Garth has been named as her replacement.

Kim Garth was part of the Australian squad which won the T20 World Cup in South Africa. She recently changed her team and shifted to Australia, while she used to play for Ireland before this. Garth has also signed a three-year deal with Melbourne Stars in the WBBL. She joined Giants yesterday in their camp.

Dottin went for Rs 60 lakh in the auctions and was seen as one of the key players for Giants, as she led West Indies to the 2016 Women’s T20 World Cup victory. Her 2697 runs and 62 wickets in 127 T20I games are proof of her talent and experience.

On the other hand, 26-year-old Kim Garth went unsold in the auctions and this will be a second chance for her to make a mark. In 54 T20Is, Garth has scored 762 runs, including a fifty. She also has 43 wickets at an average of 21.30 and an economy of 5.92 in the shortest format.
