WPL 2023: Mumbai dabbawalas deliver 30,000 dabbas, one to Jemimah Rodrigues to promote tournament (VIDEO)

New Delhi: Mumbai dabbawalas (tiffin box deliverymen) are quite popular across the country and their business model has also made a mark globally. TATA WPL 2023 collaborated with the dabbawalas to promote the tournament and shared a video from the official handle. A total of 30,000 dabbas were delivered to promote the Women’s Premier League across the city.

The Women’s Premier League is being held at DY Patil Stadium and Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai and dabbawalas in the city delivered 30,000 dabbas wearing pink caps with the WPL logo.

A special lunchbox was also delivered to Delhi Capitals’ vice captain Jemimah Rodrigues. The video shows Jemimah’s mother sending a lunchbox for her as a dabbawala walks across the city to make a special delivery, while ‘painting the city pink’.

WPL began on March 4 and is a milestone league in women’s cricket as it not only boosts young talent but also brings in more audience and money into it.

For promoting the league, BCCI has kept tickets for women free and for men, the ticket price begins at Rs 100. Jio Cinema is also streaming the tournament for free.

Delhi Capitals began their campaign against RCB with a win after a 162-run stand between Shafali Verma and captain Meg Lanning. Jemimah Rodrigues provided a cracking finish with her 22* off 15 to take her team to 223/2. They won with a huge 60-run margin after USA’s Tara Norris picked a five-wicket haul.

The next game will be played between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challenger Bangalore on March 6 at 7:30 pm.
