
New Delhi: Few videos circulating on social media these days, show a lion roaring and walking on the street. A Facebook post claimed it to be from Raisen of Madhya Pradesh, however , it is far from the truth. Here is what we found out in the viral check.
Viral Claim
As per the below Facebook video post, a lion can be seen taking a stroll on the road and then disappearing into the jungle. Post says, “Lion seen on Raisen bypass, commuters be careful.”
Investigation
Newsroompost did some research to trace its actual location. We cut out a few frame of this video and then did reverse search on google with keywords ‘Lion on road’. We came across a video posted by Parveen Kaswan, IFS.

According to Parveen Kaswan’s tweet, the video was shared by @joshirajan155 twitter handle. After scanning this handle, we found that this video was dated July 10, 2020. Being a wildlife photographer, this person recorded it on camera and posted on Twitter with caption, #Monsoon in the #Gir , Magestic #Asiaticlion.

And, this video was from near the Girnar wildlife sanctuary of Gujarat.
This video was posted with a false claim by Sultan Siddiqui on Facebook. Being a resident, he described this video as from Madhya Pradesh.
Conclusion
This viral video of Asiatic lion is from Gujarat and not of Madhya Pradesh. Such lions are often seen around the Girnar Wildlife Sanctuary.
