Canada bans TikTok from government-issued devices

The suspension of TikTok also extends to workers’ personal devices which are used for work purposes.

New Delhi: Canadian govt announced a ban on the Chinese-owned social media app Tik-Tok from government-issued devices.

According to reports, the users of these devices will be blocked from downloading the application in the future.

Canada joined the European Union and some state governments in the US in banning TikTok on government devices.

The banning of TikTok was announced by Mona Fortier, President of the Treasury Board.

In the statement, Fortier said the TikTok application will be removed from government-issued mobile devices effective from February 28, 2023.

This comes after the Chief Information Officer of Canada determined that the presence of TikTok presents an unacceptable level of risk to privacy and security.

Last week the European Commission directed all employees to remove TikTok from their corporate devices.

The suspension of TikTok also extends to workers’ personal devices which are used for work purposes.

Recently, the US House of Representatives also ordered its staff to delete TikTok from their official work devices.

India banned the use of TikTok and several other Chinese apps in 2020 for allegedly sharing user data with China.
