Owing to the rising number of COVID-19 cases, China has planned to impose a lockdown in each half of its financial capital Shanghai.

New Delhi: Owing to the rising number of COVID-19 cases, China has planned to impose a lockdown in each half of its financial capital Shanghai. The lockdown will come into effect from Monday. During the lockdown, the dragon will conduct mass tests for COVID-19. It will also help the authorities to conduct the testing.

It is reported that the city has registered a significant jump in asymptomatic cases in recent weeks. Notably, Shanghai is home to around 26 million people.

To help the health officials, the Chinese government has also decided to divide the financial capital into two for testing millions of people in a short time. This will be done with help of the Huangpu river which divides the city into two parts.

Eastern districts and the western districts situated across the river will be locked down and tested between March 28 and April 1.

The lockdown will further be imposed in the remaining areas for testing between April 1 and April 5, according to the city government’s social media account.

The decision of the lockdown came after a lot of consideration. Earlier the city authorities were not in favour of a swift lockdown citing the negative impact on China’s economy and the world’s economy.

During the lockdown, all firms and factories will not be allowed to work. However, those who are involved in offering public services or supplying food can operate as per the new guidelines.
