Chinese rocket debris lights up night sky, internet assumes meteor shower over Indian Ocean [VIDEO]

“Looks like that Chinese rocket just burned up over Malaysia. Now wait to hear what big pieces splashed/thumped to Earth”

New Delhi: Social Media users on Saturday took to their respective Twitter handles to share pictures and videos of a reported meteor shower over the Indian Ocean. The now-viral clips show staggering red and blue hues flared up and moving across the dark sky as the locals capture the astonishing moment in their mobile phone cameras.

Thrilled with the stunning images, the said meteor shower became the talk of the town as soon as it surfaced online, though the misassumption was soon cleared up by the concerning authorities and other scientists.

The meteor shower in reality turned out to be the fireworks which were burning up the debris created by a Chinese rocket, which reportedly had reentered the earth’s atmosphere from over the Indian Ocean region.

“USSPACECOM can confirm the People’s Republic of China (PRC) Long March 5B (CZ-5B) re-entered over the Indian Ocean at approx 10:45 am MDT on 7/30. We refer you to the PRC for further details on the reentry’s technical aspects such as potential debris dispersal+ impact location”, the US Space Command tweeted.
