Imran Khan attacked: Ibtisam Hassan, man who ‘saved’ ex-Pak PM at long march (VIDEO)

While the attacker was nabbed by security forces, a man named Ibtisam Hassan was hailed as a ‘hero’ for foiling the assassination attempt on the former Pak PM.

New Delhi: Former Pakistan PM Imran Khan survived a major assassination attempt during his long march in Wazirpur, however, he got injured in leg due to gunshot and is currently recuperating in a Lahore hospital.

While the attacker was nabbed by security forces, a man named Ibtisam Hassan was hailed as a ‘hero’ for foiling the assassination attempt on the former Pak PM.

The man took on the unidentified gunman who started indiscriminate firing at Imran Khan’s convoy, leaving at least 6-10 people injured. He was hailed by people as hero & saviour and lauded for saving Imran Khan’s life. As the video surfaced on social media, netizens also showered praise on him for saviour act.


In the dramatic footage, the ‘hero’ can be seen grabbing the attacker from behind while the latter tries to take aim at Imran’s convoy.


Ibtisam told newsmen that he was standing about 10-12 feet from the container mounted truck on which Imran Khan & other PTI leaders were standing. He saw a man loading his gun. As the gunman fired a gunshot at Imran Khan, he jumped at the attacker and pushed him towards the ground. The attacker managed to fire again but lost his aim and it hurt some other person at container top.


Ibtisam said that the weapon looked like an automatic one. However, the assailant lost his gun in the scuffle and the assassination attempt was thwarted.

What Imran’s attacker said

The attacker, caught by security officials, was identified as Naveed Mohammad Basheer. He confessed to his crime and said that he wanted to kill Imran because he was fooling the public with false promises.


Meanwhile, the PTI chairman is currently recovering in hospital. Some fragments of bullets are still said to be in his legs. His party has announced protest march against the deadly attack on him.
