Indian student from Punjab dies of stroke in Ukraine

New Delhi: An Indian medical student from Barnala in Punjab, died of a stroke in war-torn Ukraine, while being treated in hospital.

The 22-year-old Chandan Jindal was studying at Vinnytsia National Pyrogov, Memorial Medical University in Vinnytsia, Ukraine.

Jindal reportedly had a stroke on February 2 and was immediately rushed to the ICU, where his parents  His parents gave their consent forhis urgent surgery, while two of his guardians Shishan Kumar and Krishna Kumar flew to Ukraine to be with him on February 7.

Krishna Kumar returned back to India on Monday and dropped the unfortunate news to the family.

“When we went to Ukraine to see Chandan, it was calm. But later, war broke out and Russia invaded Ukraine. We decided that one of us must return. I did,” Mr. Kumar said.

Meanwhile, Jindal’s father has written to the Government of India to make arrangements for bringing back his body.
