US man dies after pet dog accidentally steps on gun, causing it to fire

New Delhi: In a shocking incident, a man was shot dead by a dog in the United States over the weekend, said Police. The incident took place after the dog accidentally stepped on a gun left on the backseat of a pickup truck.

According to police in the central US state of Kansas, the victim was sitting in the truck’s front passenger seat and was stuck in the back as he and his pet were out on a hunting excursion on Saturday.

The pet dog, a canine belonging to the owner of the pickup stepped on the gun, releasing the bullet.’The victim died of his injuries on the spot.

Meanwhile, in a separate statement, the sheriff’s office said the investigation is underway but the preliminary investigation shows it to be a hunting-related accident.

Shooting accidents are very common in the United States, a country where there are more guns than people.

The data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that in 2021 more than 500 people died in firearm accidents.
