Who is Tulsi Gabbard, Indian American who resigned from US’ Democratic Party?

Interestingly, Gabbard has also served in a field medical unit of the Hawaii Army National Guard in a combat zone in Iraq and Kuwait

New Delhi: Tulsi Gabbard, the first Hindu American lawmaker, resigned from the Democratic Party on Tuesday. She announced her quit from the party while blaming it for radicalizing every issue and calling it an ‘elitist cabal of warmongers’. Notably, 41-year-old Gabbard retired from the House of Representatives last year only and has not revealed her next step yet.

Who is Tulsi Gabbard?

Gabbard grew up in Hawaii and ran for Hawai Statehouse at just 21 years old. She was the first Hindu to be elected to the US House of Representatives from Hawaii in 2013 and was subsequently elected four times in a row.

Gabbard has remained a Democrat for the last 20 years.

Notably, She is also the first Hindu lawmaker in the US Congress to run for the presidential post.

Interestingly, Gabbard has also served in a field medical unit of the Hawaii Army National Guard in a combat zone in Iraq from 2004 to 2005 and was later deployed in Kuwait from 2008 to 2009.

Why Gabbard quit the Democratic Party?

The former representative announced that she can no longer remain a member of the party she has been a part of for 20 years accusing it of anti-white racism.

“I can no longer remain in today’s Democratic Party that is now under the complete control of an elitist cabal of warmongers driven by cowardly wokeness, who divide us by racializing every issue and stoke anti-white racism”, Gabbard said in a video shared via her social media handles.

“I believe in a government that is of, by, and for the people. Unfortunately, today’s Democratic Party does not. Instead, it stands for a government of, by, and for the powerful elite. I’m calling on my fellow common sense independent-minded Democrats to join me in leaving the Democratic Party”, she added.
