New Delhi: On March 29, 2024, Netflix will launch Heart of the Hunter, a film adapted from the eponymous book.

With a few tweaks here and there, the South African film adapts the storyline of Deon Meyer’s popular book of the same name. The first of three films in a trilogy with Netflix, it is directed by Mandlakayise Walter Dube, who is known for the SAFTA-winning Silverton Siege.

A fascinating trailer for this forthcoming suspense thriller film was recently released, and it seems that the movie will be worth seeing.

Plot

The movie takes place in post-democratic South Africa and follows the protagonist, Zuko, as he lives a quiet life, ignorant of his hidden background until an old colleague brings up the vow he made to save his nation from corrupt politicians.

Khumalo is compelled to emerge from his peaceful retirement when his idyllic life is disrupted by an incursion from his past and a summons to honour a solemn vow. To save his loved ones and the nation from the clutches of unscrupulous politicians, he must go on a daring adventure.

The stakes are high and the tension is rising as Zuko first fights against returning to a life filled with mayhem, exhilarating adventures, narrow escapes, and tragic deaths. However, he is compelled to go on a 72-hour quest including automobile chases and stolen bike rides upon realizing the seriousness of the situation. Also, he can’t let his family’s safety and the country’s peace be jeopardized by the perilous political dangers they face.

When and Where to Watch?

On March 29, 2024, Heart of the Hunter will be available to view on Netflix. The film, which Mandlakayise Walter Dube is directing, is the first of a trilogy of films that the filmmaker has contracted with Netflix.

The film seems like an enthralling blend of familial love, political intrigue, mystery, and suspense, and the trailer gives us a good look at it.

Cast

Seen alongside Bonko Khoza as Zuko Khumalo, the movie has an ensemble cast of notable South African actors, including Masasa Mbangeni, Connie Ferguson, Tim Theron, Peter Butler, Deon Coetzee, Sisanda Henna, and Connie Chiume, among many more.
