Swatantra Veer Savarkar Review: The biopic has a brilliant performance from Randeep Hooda, but the plot falls flat

Swatantra Veer Savarkar Review: Randeep, in his directorial debut, helms a film that pays tribute to Veer Savarkar, the great Indian national hero, and examines his life, ideas, and impact on the people of pre-independence India.

New Delhi: The life of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar is reimagined by Randeep Hooda in Swatantra Veer Savarkar. In contrast to other great leaders, such as Mahatma Gandhi, Savarkar had quite different ideas about how to achieve independence, as we see unfold throughout the film.

Starting today, March 22, 2024, viewers will be able to see the biography of Veer Savarkar in theatres.

Plot

From the early 1900s until his death, the life of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar (played by Randeep Hooda) is the subject of Swatantra Veer Savarkar.

Despite being a brilliant student at his institution, Savarkar begins to exhibit reformist tendencies at a young age. After making waves with his passionate views on “Abhinav Bharat,” he goes to Britain to study law and simultaneously produces a book about the 1857 Indian uprising. As a result of his meteoric rise to revolutionary prominence among Indians throughout the world, Savarkar quickly becomes the British government’s most sought-after man.

Review

Along with his role as Savarkar, Randeep Hooda made his directing debut in this film. Seeing their father die is the first scene of the film, which follows a young Savarkar and his family. Not long after coming of age, he resolves to become a freedom fighter and, to strengthen his cause, he plans to study British law in London.

Randeep, in his directorial debut, helms a film that pays tribute to Veer Savarkar, the great Indian national hero, and examines his life, ideas, and impact on the people of pre-independence India.

There are riveting and suspenseful parts in the film Swatantra Veer Savarkar. The discussions are quite powerful. The film’s immersive experience is a result of the high-quality camerawork and production values.

Though the plot is compelling overall, it drags at times. The first half is dull, but the second half is interesting, engaging, and suitable for the political atmosphere of the nation right now.

On the other hand, some critics felt the film overly embellished some historical events. As a result, the film’s narrative is disjointed and the plot drags at points.

Randeep Hooda gives a once-in-a-lifetime performance. In recent memory, it ranks among the finest performances by an Indian actor.

Among the other actors, Ankita Lokhande gives a strong performance in a brief part. Whenever Amit Sial, as Ganesh Damodar Savarkar, entered the frame, the screen remained kept aloft. The film’s supporting cast members also contribute significantly.

While Randeep’s picture drags on for a long time, it’s a big endeavour that could thrill and delight fans of historical fiction.
