Hybrid solar eclipse: What is it, when will it occur & where can you see it?

In 2023, April 20 will mark the rare hybrid solar eclipse. Reportedly, this kind of incident will take place after around 10 years.

New Delhi: In an unusual celestial event, April 20 will mark this year’s rare Hybrid Solar Eclipse. On this day, the Moon will block the rays of the Sun from entering the Earth’s atmosphere. On this day, the Earth will be covered with Moon’s shadow, making a shift from total Solar eclipse to a ring-shaped or annular eclipse.

Certainly, this rare solar eclipse occurs once in centuries. Reportedly, this kind of incident will take place after around 10 years. To estimate the future, the rare hybrid solar eclipse will not be available to witness until the year 2031. After that, it will directly be available in the year 2164.

What is a hybrid solar eclipse?

To understand, a solar eclipse can be witnessed when the earth, sun, and the moon are aligned in a back-to-back position. They can be lined up partially or fully. Also termed as the Ningaloo eclipse, the solar eclipse can be differentiated into four types- Total eclipse, Partial Eclipse, Annular Eclipse and Hybrid eclipse.

A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon entirely blocks the sun and passes between the Earth and the Sun.

A partial solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and the sun without being lined up perfectly. Thus, it will form a crescent shape, allowing a part of the Sun to be visible.

Annular solar eclipse can be witnessed when the Moon is at the farthest position from Earth, due to which the Moon will appear smaller in size and will not be able to cover the Earth entirely.

A hybrid solar eclipse is the rarest of rare which marks an eclipse shift between the total to annular solar eclipse. Due to the Earth’s revolving behavior, there will be a moving shadow of the moon.
