New Delhi: Mumbai city witnessed a hike in price in both the compressed natural gas (CNG) and piped natural gas (PNG) by Rs 2 per kg and Rs 1.50 per SCM. According to reports, state-run city gas utility Mahanagar Gas has increased the price of domestic gases on Saturday midnight. This price increase has been done based on a per standard cubic metre (SCM) basis. Reportedly, around eight lakh consumers across Mumbai and nearby areas will be affected by the hike.
As per the report by The Times of India, CNG price in Mumbai has been increased by as much as Rs 16, which acted as trouble for lakhs of consumers using the fuels. According to the DNA report, this is the second time in three weeks Mahanagar Gas Ltd (MGL) has increased the price of CNG and PNG. This increase will affect those public transport owners of vehicles such as taxis, buses, and autos, and also private car owners.
Following the price hike in CNG, the Kaali-Peeli taxi and autorickshaw unions are demanding an increase in minimum fare by Rs 5 and Rs 2 respectively, reported Times of India.
“Justifying the hike, the MGL said in order to meet the shortfall in domestic gas allocation, the company is sourcing additional market-priced natural gas (imported RLNG) to cater to the increasing demands for both CNG and PNG,” stated DNA in a report.
This will be an additional burden to the car owners as they are already experiencing a hike in petrol and diesel prices. Despite the government’s excise duty cut, the petrol prices remained at Rs 100 in Mumbai.
Besides, CNG PRICE IN Mumbai was standing at Rs 63.50 per kilogram, which was up by Rs 2 at Rs 61.50 per kilogram.
