BharatPe vs Kotak: Ashneer Grover calls Uday Kodak “legend” amid legal battle

Kotak Manindra has launched a full-scale investigation into the governance practices of BharatPe, which is known for its QR code aggregating app and lending platform.

Ashneer Grover, the co-founder of fintech BharatPe, showered praise on banker Uday Kodak, calling him a legend even though, his company is in a legal tussle with Kotak Mahindra Bank.

Grover taking to the comment section of a post in LinkedIn regarded Uday Kotak as a legend. He wrote, “Uday Kotak is a legend. I had the fortune of starting my career in Kotak — seven years — and can tell you no one understands or does finance better in India!”

Originally a post was made weeks ago by Radhika Bajoria, a communications professional on which Ashneer Grover commented on this post four days ago.

This comment gained significance after Grover and his wife Madhuri Jain Grover issued a legal notice against Kotak Mahindra Bank MD and CEO and his senior management, for failing to secure financing and allocations of share in an IPO launched by beauty firm Nykaa.

Meanwhile, Grover was sent on a leave of absence till March-end in-between his backlash for his abusive language to a Kotak employee and toxic culture at BharatPe, his wife, the head of controls at $3 billion fintech had also been sent on leave amidst the probe on the company’s practices.

The industry is speculating that after this investigation, Grover will be evicted from BharatPe. Late last week, rumours were around social media that Grover and his wife had already exited the company and their share will be seized by the board. Denying the rumours, the company on January 29 stated that it had not terminated the services of any employee and will wait for the external auditor to end its investigation.
