BSE CEO Ashish Chauhan appointed Chancellor of Allahabad University for 5 years

Ashish Chauhan is credited with reviving the BSE, making it fastest exchange in the world with less than 6 microseconds response time, introduction of mobile trading and many other features.

New Delhi: Ashish Kumar Chauhan, the MD & CEO of Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) was on Wednesday appointed as the Chancellor of University of Allahabad.

The appointment was made by President Ram Nath Kovind, in his capacity as visitor of the University, said an order issued by Union Ministry of Education.

Mr Ashish Chauhan will take over his charge as the Chancellor of world-renowned university from 10th May and will serve for a span of 5 years.

University of Allahabad is a reputed and an educational institute with rich legacy. It was set up in 1887 and is also one of the 4 oldest universities in India.

Excited and elated over the new assignment in field of higher education, BSE CEO Ashish Chauhan thanked the President, Prime Minister and Education and tweeted “Truly honored and humbled by your gesture!”

BSE setting new milestones under Ashish Chauhan

The BSE has been on a tremendous growth trajectory under the stewardship of Ashish Kumar Chauhan. It has been scaling new heights and achieving new milestones in terms of market capitalization as well as adding new investors to the market.

A day ago, the market capitalisation of BSE-listed companies hit $3 trillion for the first time ever.

The only other countries that have a stock market capitalization of more than $3 trillion are the US, China, Hong Kong, Japan, UK, France, and Canada.

5 to 7 crore investors joined BSE markets in last 1 year

Investor base has also seen sharp rise in past 1 year. It has increased from 5 crore to 6.9 crore (YoY).

“If you look at the number of investors, in last one year alone we added more than 35 percent of investors. So effectively we went from close to 5 crore to now almost 7 crore investors today. We are adding pretty much 50,000 to 1 lakh investor’s everyday on the BSE markets,” BSE CEO told media persons.

Mr Ashish Chauhan is a mechanical engineer from IIT Bombay and an alumnus of IIM Calcutta. He is credited with reviving the BSE, making it fastest exchange in the world with less than 6 microseconds response time, introduction of mobile trading and many other features. He was also a member of the core that founded the National Stock Exchange (NSE).
