Intel starts working to launch energy-efficient crypto chip

The world’s largest semiconductor chip manufacturer Intel announced that it has started the work to launch a crypto chip.

New Delhi: The world’s largest semiconductor chip manufacturer Intel announced that it has started the work to launch a crypto chip. The chip developed by Intel is said to be very energy-efficient. Fintech, the company owned by Jack Dorsey, will purchase the chip, becoming the first customer of Intel’s crypto chip.

The new chip is believed to be a pioneer in the development of blockchain technologies. Intel’s new chip will also be energy efficient, saving an immense amount of energy.

Notably, the demand for energy-efficient computing technologies is rising as some blockchains require an enormous amount of computing power.

On the development, Raja M Koduri, SVP, and GM, Accelerated Computing Systems and Graphics Group at Intel, said, ”We at Intel are declaring our intent to contribute to the development of blockchain technologies, with a roadmap of energy-efficient accelerators.”

”Intel will engage and promote an open and secure blockchain ecosystem and will help advance this technology in a responsible and sustainable way,” added Koduri.

Furthermore, he said, ”Intel Labs has dedicated decades of research into reliable cryptography, hashing techniques, and ultra-low voltage circuits. We expect that our circuit innovations will deliver a blockchain accelerator that  has over 1000x better performance per watt than mainstream GPUs for SHA-256 based mining.”
