Sheryl Sandberg stepping down from the position of COO at Meta Platform

The decision to leave Meta was her own and she called Zukerberg, who was in Hawaii, to tell the same. She wanted Zukerberg to be the first one to know, her employees told. Sandberg will discontinue as the COO of Meta but she will remain on board though.

New Delhi :On Wednesday, Sheryl Sandberg said that she will be stepping down from Meta this fall. Meta, previously known as Facebook, owns Instagram, Whatsapp, and Messenger, and is currently working on the development of an immersive online world called Metaverse. When Mark Zukerberg, then 23, hired a Google executive Sandberg, then 38, he said he had hired her as “she has just about the most relevant industry experience for Facebook, especially since we need to scale our operations and scale them globally.”

Sheryl Sandberg has stepped down as COO of Meta, after working for 14 years in the company. She said she expected to work for the company for 5 years, but eventually worked for 14 years. She added that she will be now focusing on her personal philanthropy, Lean In. Also, she said she will be marrying Tom Bernthal, a television producer, this summer.

“I believe in this company. Have we gotten everything right? Absolutely not. Have we learned and listened and grown and invested where we need to? This team has and will,” said Sandberg.

In a Facebook post, Mark Zukerberg, announced Javier Olivan, a product executive who has overseen and contributed much to Facebook’s growth over the past decade, as Meta’s next chief operating officer. In the post Zuckerberg also praised Sandberg, saying it was “unusual for a business partnership like ours to last so long.”
