125 passengers of Italy-Amritsar Air India flight tested Covid-19 positive on arrival

India recorded 90,928 new cases of Covid-19 in 24 hours, taking the total up to 35.11 million.

New Delhi: A total of 125 passengers of Air India of route Italy to Amritsar have been tested positive for Covid-19 on arriving at the Amritsar airport on Thursday, reported Airport Director, VK Seth.

The flight carried 179 passengers which included 19 children and the rest were adults. The flight departed from Milan and arrived in Amritsar at around 1:30 PM. The officials stated that the flight had a technical halt at Tbilisi (Georgia).

All the adult passengers were tested as Italy reports to be labelled as one of the high-risk countries for Omicron.

“125 passengers of (Milan) Italy-Amritsar flight have tested positive for Covid-19 on arrival at Amritsar airport,” VK Seth, Airport Director told ANI.

 

Amritsar airport authorities are in touch with the local administration to shift the positive passengers to the quarantine centres in different districts of Punjab.

“We have contacted local administration regarding shifting of passengers to several quarantine centres,” Amritsar Airport Director said.

There will be genome sequencing of all the passengers who have been found positive.

The family members of the passengers who reached the airport showed anger towards the airport authorities and questioned the testing lab.

Meanwhile, India recorded 90,928 new cases of Covid-19 in 24 hours, taking the total up to 35.11 million, said the health ministry on Wednesday. This is the highest surge since June 11, 2021. Besides, 325 deaths have been recorded taking the toll to 482,876. Punjab reported two Omicron cases so far.
