Coronavirus in India: 5 states including Maharashtra, Karnataka show steep rise in new cases

Central govt. has asked the state govts. to increase the number of RT-PCR tests and also advised containment of those zones where there is a cluster of new cases.

New Delhi: In a new press release by Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, it has been revealed that five states including neighboring states of Maharashtra and Karnataka have recorded a steep rise in the number of daily new cases. Almost 40,000 new cases were recorded in the last 24 hours with 25,833 detected in Maharashtra.

Other states that have a steep increase in daily new cases are Karnataka, Punjab, Chhattisgarh and Gujarat, all these states account for 80.63% of the new cases recorded daily.

Centre has also said about helping the state governments, “The Centre is actively engaging with all State and UT governments, especially those showing an upsurge in daily new cases and with a high caseload of active cases. The Union Government is regularly reviewing the status of COVID containment and public health measures with them.”

The release also states that except for the five mentioned above, three more states are being closely monitored as they are also showing an increase. Those states are- Delhi, Haryana and Tamil Nadu.

Active Caseload

India’s total Active Caseload stands at 2.71 lakh (2,71,282) today, 2.82% of the total positive cases in the country. A net incline of 18,918 cases recorded from the total active caseload in the last 24 hours. Three States of Maharashtra, Kerala and Punjab account for 76.48% of India’s total active cases.

Recently, the Centre had deputed high level Public Health teams to Maharashtra and Punjab to assist in COVID-19 control and containment measures in view of recent spike in cases in these States.

While talking about the vaccination, Govt has said that nearly 4 crore doses have been administered till now. The statement reads,”Nearly 4cr (3,93,39,817) vaccine doses have been administered through 6,47,480 sessions, as per the provisional report till 7 am today.”
