Delhi logs 10,665 fresh Covid cases; positivity rate jumps to 11.88%

With 10,665 fresh Covid-19 cases, the cumulative caseload has gone up to 14,74,366 while the death toll stood at 25,121.

New Delhi: Delhi on Wednesday reported 10,665 fresh Covid-19 cases and 8 deaths in the last 24 hours. The positivity rate has risen to 11.88%. Delhi has reported the highest cases since May 12.

With 10,665 fresh Covid-19 cases, the cumulative caseload has gone up to 14,74,366 while the death toll stood at 25,121. The number of active cases in the capital stands at 23,307.

Earlier, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain has said that “the third wave of COVID-19 has set in for India, while the fifth wave has set in for Delhi” informing that the national captial is likely to report 10,000 COVID-19 cases today and is stepping closer to a daily positivity rate of 10 per cent.

The government has instructed private hospitals to increase the number of reserved beds for COVID patients to 40 per cent from 10 per cent of their capacity, Jain further informed.

Meanwhile, 2,239 people recovered from the infection. With this, the recovery tally in the capital city now stands at 14,25,938. A total of 782 patients are currently undergoing treatment for COVID-19 in Delhi hospitals.

In the ongoing COVID-19 vaccination drive, 1,98,213eligible beneficiaries were vaccinated in the last 24 hours. Of these, 33,230 were beneficiaries of the age group 15-17 years.

Delhi has been witnessing a rise in infections following the emergence of the new COVID-19 variant Omicron.

In view of the rising cases, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has decided to impose a weekend curfew in the national capital.
