Russia has started the final stage of clinical trials of COVID-19 vaccine being developed by the Gamaleya Scientific Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology jointly with the Russian Defence Ministry, the latter said on Friday.

Russia has started the final stage of clinical trials of COVID-19 vaccine being developed by the Gamaleya Scientific Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology jointly with the Russian Defence Ministry, the latter said on Friday.

“The Russian Defence Ministry jointly with the Gamaleya Scientific Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology started the final stage of clinical tests of the coronavirus vaccine”, the Defence Ministry said in a statement.

Immunity seen in vaccine administered volunteers

Participants of the experiments showed an immune response to the Coronavirus vaccine, according to the statement.
Results of COVID-19 vaccine tests, performed on a group of volunteers in Russia, show that they are developing immunity to the coronavirus, the defence ministry said.

“In line with the research protocol, volunteers regularly take tests for antibody and cell-mediated immunity,” the ministry stated.

Volunteers under supervision after vaccine

“The data obtained by the Gamalei National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, proves that volunteers of the first and second groups are forming an immune response after injections of the vaccine against the coronavirus.”

After the introduction of vaccine, all volunteers will continue to be under continued medical supervision. Regular screenings and necessary analysis will be conducted.

The novel coronavirus was first registered in Chian’s Wuhan. As of today, more than 12.2 million people have been infected with COVID-19 globally, of whom over 550,000 have died.
