New Delhi: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami on Monday announced extension of lockdown in Tamil Nadu till April 30.
With this announcement, Tamil Nadu has become 5th state to extend the lockdown till the end of this month, others being Punjab, Maharashtra, Bengal and Telangana.
The extension comes in the backdrop of Covid-19 cases in Tamil Nadu crossing the 1,000-mark to end with 1,075 cases on Sunday – the third State to cross the 1,000 mark after Maharashtra and New Delhi.
TN CM said that the move was in accordance with the recommendations of medical and public health experts.
Palaniswami, pointing out that he favoured prolonging the curbs till the end of this month in a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi held on Saturday, said several other State chief ministers too batted for extending the restrictions.
Eight doctors and five nurses have tested positive for the coronaviurs in Tamil Nadu, state’s Health Secretary Beela Rajesh told press yesterday.
