CBSE Exams 2022: Term I to matter most for Class X & XII results, here is why

The result of term I will only consist of marks and no students will be put under the category of pass or fail.

New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE) board exams of Academic year 2021-22 of the classes 10 and 12 will be conducted into two terms namely – I and II. Reportedly, the board will consider marks of both the terms along with internal assessment. However, if term II fails to be conducted owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, only the Term 1 result will be considered at that time.

In Term 1 50% of the entire syllabus will be covered for both classes. Moreover, the syllabus has been reduced to 30% for the board classes and the pattern of examination has been changed accordingly.

Class 10’s internal assessment will comprise of three periodic tests, student enrichment, portfolio, and practical work, speaking-listening activities. In the case of class 12, there will be unit tests at the end of every topic, exploratory activities, practicals, and projects. The result of term I will only consist of marks and no students will be put under the category of pass or fail. The merit list will be formed only after the final result.

Earlier, CBSE has released the datasheet for major and minor subjects. Exams for major subjects for Class 10 will start from November 30 and for 12th, December 1. The minor subjects’ examinations will be conducted before that. The term I will consist of MCQs based on both case and assertion-reasoning. The answers will be given on OMR sheets while each paper has to be completed within 90 minutes.

There is a total of 114 subjects in class 12 out of which 19 are major subjects and the rest are minor. On the other hand, class 10 is provided with 75 subjects including 9 majors and the rest minor. Considering the Term I exam, students have to appear from the respective schools they have allocated themselves to, which will shorten the travel during the pandemic. CBSC will appoint invigilators and observers at the exam centres to conduct a transparent examination process.
