Exams in Covid-19 times: Health Ministry releases SOPs… check it here

Health Ministry has released Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) on preventive measures to be followed while conducting examinations to contain spread of COVID-19.

New Delhi: The Joint Entrance Examination or JEE (Mains) for admission to IITs are being underway despite the high Coronavirus count and a couple of more including NEET are scheduled in coming days.

National Testing Agency (NTA) had already issued a list of guidelines under which these entrance tests were to be conducted.

Now, the Health Ministry has released Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) on preventive measures to be followed while conducting examinations to contain spread of COVID-19. The generic measures include simple public health measures that are to be followed.

These include physical distancing of at least 6 feet as far as feasible, mandatory face covers/masks, frequent hand washing with soap and use of alcohol-based hand sanitizers. Respiratory etiquette must be strictly followed. This involves strict practice of covering one’s mouth and nose while coughing or sneezing. Spitting is strictly prohibited. Self-monitoring of health must be followed by all. Any illness must be reported at the earliest.

Only those examination centers which are outside the containment zone shall be allowed to function. Staff or examinees from containment zones shall not be permitted.

Such examinees shall be given an opportunity to undertake the examination through other means or the Universities and Educational Institution shall arrange for taking the exam at a later date for such students.

Keeping in view the physical distancing norms, institutions should have adequate room capacity to ensure proper seating arrangement for examination. Exam functionaries and examinees may also submit self-declaration about health status at the time of entrance to the examination center. Adequate manpower shall be deployed by the Institution for maintaining discipline to ensure observance to distancing norms and other preventive measures at all times during conduct of the examination.

Examination hall and other common areas shall be sanitized each time before and after examination.
