From being a sweeper to Deputy Collector: Rajasthan woman sets rare example

New Delhi: Asha Kandara, a woman sweeper in Jodhpur Municipal Corporation has cleared the Rajasthan Administrative Service examination. Asha is now all set to be appointed as a deputy collector soon.

Kandara has set an example for many aspirants preparing for the prestigious examination. She has cleared the examination under difficult circumstances and with very limited resources.

 

Asha Kandara is a single mother and had completed her graduation while she was bringing up two young children. She separated from her husband eight years back.

Kandara had attempted the examination two years back, whose result was delayed till now. A few days after the exam, she got the job of sweeper in Jodhpur Municipal Corporation. She took the job for financial support and the survival of her family.

For the past two years, Kandara was sweeping the roads in Jodhpur City for the upbringing of her kids. There are no limits to Asha’s contentment after the declaration of the results.

There have been similar incidents in the past where aspirants have achieved their respective goals beating all the odds.

Recently, Anie Siva, a single mother from Kerala, beat all odds stacked against her to become a proud sub-inspector in Thiruvananthapuram district. She was abandoned by her live-in partner along with their infant child.
