Home Ministry allows universities to conduct final year exams

UGC released its guidelines asking the universities to conduct terminal semester examinations by September end.

New Delhi: The Union Home Ministry on Monday allowed universities and institutions to conduct final year examinations. The exams have been pending since March due to nation-wide lockdown.

“The final term examinations are to be compulsorily conducted as per the UGC [University Grants Commission] guidelines on examinations and academic calendar for the universities; and as per the Standard Operating Procedure approved by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare,” a press release by the ministry said.

Soon after this, the UGC released its guidelines asking the universities to conduct terminal semester examinations by September end.

According to the new guidelines, the final university exams can be held online and offline. In case a student cannot appear in September, provisions will be made so she can take the exams later.

So far, several states, including Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and Haryana cancelled all higher education exams and decided to promote students on the basis of previous performances.

The UGC is expected to release a new academic calendar and revised guidelines for exams.
