New Delhi: Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh chaired a high-level meeting on Sunday to decide the fate of CBSE Class 12 board exams. The latest update is that the meeting was held after PM Modi instructed to do so as the meeting was attended by state’s education ministers and secretaries. The education ministry cancelled Class 10 board examination in April while delaying the Class 12 board examination due to the rising Covid-19 cases in India. It was also announced that the review will be done on June 1.

According to the sources, central govt. had put forward two proposals – one reducing the time of examination from three hours to one and a half hours. The other being reducing the number of exams. While many states believed to hold the examinations sometime around September when the cases will be back in control, some states like Maharashtra and Delhi were against the idea of holding examinations in the middle of the pandemic.

Whereas, PM Modi said for the Class 12 exams, “Govt. has to take a decision keeping in mind the present security of the children as well as their future prospects.” The decision is expected to come very soon as the students across the country are waiting eagerly.

India recorded 2,22,315 new cases in the past 24 hours while the number of deaths crossed the milestone of 3 lakhs with 4,454 being recorded on Sunday.
