New Delhi: While the Barbie universe has given many unique personalities to fans, Weird Barbie stands out for being the only one who was never really active as one of the family. However, Kate McKinnon’s Weird Barbie is receiving the credit she deserves. Weird Barbie, inspired by Kate McKinnon’s portrayal of Barbie, has been released by Mattel.
The doll was made available for pre-order by Mattel on Friday, August 4th, as part of the Barbie family. The character’s distinguishing features, like odd hairstyles, will be included in the design of Weird Barbie. The doll looks just like McKinnon’s persona, right down to the bleach-white hair and rainbow streaks. Her forehead is covered in colourful squiggles, and there is a circle around one of her eyes. The Weird Barbie doll, like the film’s Barbie character, can perform the splits and imitate some of McKinnon’s comedic arm and hand movements.

There will be a whole line of dolls based on the film’s universe, and the Weird Barbie will be a part of it. Mattel, the company behind the Barbie brand, has opted to create a line of toys designed to appear like the ones featured in Greta Gerwig’s box office hit, even as it continues to roll out new toys in the classic Barbie line regularly.
Mattel says that the Weird Barbie will be available for preorder from August 4th through August 18th and that it will arrive on or before May 31st, 2024.

Just two weeks into its theatrical run, Barbie has already earned more than $1 billion throughout the globe. It’s looking likely that the picture will become the highest-grossing release of the year if it manages to get into that exclusive box office club this weekend. The Super Mario Bros. Movie is the only thing standing in Barbie’s way, so the remainder of this month will tell whether she can remain on top or not. Regardless of how things pan out in the coming weeks, Barbie was an unexpected hit for Warner Bros.
