New Delhi: On August 11, before Independence Day, audiences will be able to see Gadar 2, starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel. After undergoing 10 substantial cuts and edits, the film received a U/A rating from India’s Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Reports indicate that the scenes including religious themes have been removed.
The film’s censors requested that a scene in which rioters chanted ‘Har Har Mahadev’ be cut and that the shlokas from ‘Shiv Tandav’ be substituted with the song lyrics ‘Akhand Hai Woh Sang Hai’ from the film.
More alterations were reportedly made to the film’s script. A dialogue that referred to the Quran and the Bhagavad Gita, two religious texts held in high regard across many cultures, was modified to ensure cultural sensitivity.

According to reports, in the film, the designation of the ‘Defence Minister’ was changed to ‘Raksha Mantri’ to reflect the right title.
The movie has also been edited to remove certain cuss words.
Both the conversation and the action in this film are quite effective. The CBFC has frequently come under criticism from moviegoers who have complained about foul language and content. The board demanded that the filmmakers of Gadar 2 provide authentic factual verification for all the film’s references to the 1971 India-Pakistan war. Following the board’s request, an English translation of the shlokas and mantras was used in the film.
