Harnaaz Sandhu stands up for Hijab wearing girls, earns ire online

The Karnatka High Court in its judgment had termed flashing religious clothing at educational institutions was against the law

New Delhi: Miss Universe Harnaaz Sandhu was extensively criticized online by social media users for lending support to Hizab wearing girls.

A video clip of a Q&A session from an event has gone viral on the Indian side of social media, wherein a journalist asks Sandhu about her views about the ongoing hijab controversy. The event was held in the honor of the Miss Universe 2021’s homecoming on March 21 in Mumbai.

In the viral video, before Sandhu answered the query, an organizer intervened and asked the journalist to refrain from asking politically sensitive questions and rather ask about her journey, success, and how she became an inspiration for others.

To this, the journo replied, “Let Harnaaz say the same things.”

Later, Sandhu while replying to the question expressed her anger at how women are always on the targeting end in society.

“Honestly, why do you always target girls? Even now you are targeting me. Like, even on the issue of hijab the girls are being targeted. Let them (girls) live the way they choose to, let her reach her destination, let her fly, those are her wings, don’t cut them, if you must (cut someone’s wings) cut your own”, she said amidst the applause from the audience.

However, the diva did not receive such applauds from the Netizens, who expressed their wrath on Harnaaz’s opinion with jibes and meme videos.

She was apparently asked on the raging controversy of girls wearing hijab in Karnataka educational institutions.

For the unversed, the Karnatka High Court in its judgment had termed flashing religious clothing at educational institutions was against the law.
