New Delhi: Bollywood actor Aamir Khan’s daughter Ira Khan finally exchanged wedding vows with her long-time lover Nupur Shikhare on 3 January. Ever since then, their ‘weird’ marriage has become a talking point amongst the netizens on Social media. for various wrong reasons.
Be it for bride Ira Khan’s shopping in Mini-skirts moments before the haldi ceremony or groom Nuper Shikhar’s casual attire at his wedding, the couple’s recently concluded wedding ceremony has been drawing criticism from the public for one or the other reason.
Amidst this, netizens have also started slamming Nupur for opting to wear a black vest in his wedding as the same has a historical connection with the term ‘The Wife beater’.

Nupur wedding dress is historically called the ‘wife-beater’ better known as a tank top in today’s world. Although the attire was initially worn by laborers as their undershirt during the late 1800s, it eventually became a popular outfit choice amongst athletes & sportspersons by the beginning of the 20th century as it used to enhance their flexibility by allowing them to freely move their body parts.
However, everything about this popular outfit choice changed in 1947 when a man named James Hartford murdered his wife by thrashing her to death in a fit of rage. Following the incident, several pictures featuring James wearing the tank top stained with his wife’s blood spread like wildfire in the public domain and people started associating the outfit (tank top) with such domestic violence offenders.

Meanwhile, A pre-wedding video featuring Nupur Shikhare enjoying with his friends dressed in a black tank top & white shorts is going viral on the internet, drawing mixed reactions from the fans.
While many are basing Ira’s groom for wearing something so casual on his wedding day, others are supporting the fitness trainer saying that he is free to do whatever makes him happy and society is no one to judge anyone like this.
Commenting on the viral clip, one internet user wrote, “Seriously, a vest and boxers for a wedding” Another one said “Lagta Hai Pagal Hospital Se Bhaag Kar Aaya Hai.” A third individual added, “Kitni bhi kya gareebi hai bhai..ki dhang se kapde pehen ke shadi nhi kr sakte.”
