Milind Soman to play Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw in Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Emergency’

Meanwhile, Mahima Chaudhry plays Pupul Jayakar, Shreyas Talpade plays the role of the former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Anupam Kher plays Jayaprakash Narayan. 

New Delhi: Actor-model Milind Soman is set to play the role of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw in Kangana Ranaut’s period drama ‘Emergency’. The makers revealed the news, with his look on a poster. Kangana Ranaut said Soman’s “overpowering screen presence and talent” made him the perfect actor to play the character of the war hero.

‘Emergency’ is set in the times of a 21-month emergency declared, from 1975 to 1977, by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Ranaut, who is the director of the film, will be seen in the role of Indira Gandhi. Meanwhile, Mahima Chaudhry plays Pupul Jayakar, Shreyas Talpade plays the role of the former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Anupam Kher plays Jayaprakash Narayan.

Talking about Milind Soman’s inclusion into the cast, Ranaut said, “We are privileged that Milind Sir will be playing this role. I hope this film does justice to his enormous talent and great screen presence.” Milind Soman is known for his roles in ‘Rules: Pyaar Ka Superhit Formula’ and ‘Bajirao Mastani’. Speaking about Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, the director said that he had clarity of vision and was a strong-headed individual. She added, “The film showcases how two very strong-headed personalities, Mrs Gandhi and Sam Manekshaw, worked together to fight the war against Pakistan.”

Sam Manekshaw was the Chief of the Army Staff of the Indian Army during the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971, and the first Indian Army officer to be promoted to the rank of field marshal. He is one of the most decorated officers to have served the nation. Another movie named ‘Sam Bahadur’ is being made on the life of the field marshal in which actor Vicky Kaushal will play the titular role.

The story for ‘Emergency’ is written by Kangana while the screenplay is penned by Ritesh Shah. The film is produced by Renu Pitti and Ranaut and is presented under the banner of Manikarnika Films.
