New Delhi: Get ready to delve deep inside the world of Squid Game all over again. The digital giant Netflix has officially confirmed the second season for the popular show ‘Squid Game’.
As per news daily Variety, Netflix’s co-CEO and chief content officer, Ted Sarandos, confirmed the renewal of the show for its upcoming season during Netflix’s fourth-quarter 2021 earnings interview.
“Absolutely, the ‘Squid Game’ universe has just begun,” Sarandos said when asked if the South Korean survival drama is up for a second season.
The first season of the show created by Hwang Dong-hyuk, features an ensemble cast that includes Park Hae-soo, Lee Jung-jae, Jung Hoyeon, and Oh Yeong-su.
The plot of the series revolves around 456 cash-strapped contestants, who are invited to compete in a series of children’s games by a mysterious organization. Though, as the show proceeds with the contest, deadly consequences are revealed, that leads to a win of around USD 38.5 million.
The show recently registered a big win at the Golden Globe Awards.
The dystopian South Korean show became the streamer’s biggest series in its history, in the weeks that followed its September 17 debut. Reaching 142 million member households globally and becoming the first to surpass 100 million views.
Earlier, during a November special screening and Q&A for the series, Hwang shared that he had been working on a season two storyline and was currently in talks with Netflix over another season, something he felt “a lot of pressure for” while in Korea and had since been asked about repeatedly by the press in Los Angeles following the show’s breakout global success.
