New Delhi: Tamil film Soorarai Pottru starring Suriya and directed by Sudha Kongara, has entered the Oscars race as the movie has been selected to be a part of the Academy Screening Room for the consideration of the Oscars Voting Committee.

This enables the movie to be in the race for an Academy Award under the General Category in Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Original Score and others. But this race could be a long one and a bit complex too.

Producer of the film Rajsekar Pandian took to Twitter to announce the news. He wrote, “Happy Republic Day! #SooraraiPottru joins OSCARS under General Category in Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Original Score and other categories! The film has been made available in the Academy Screening Room today.”

But there is a catch, Soorarai Pottru is only available in the Academy Screening Room and will need several votes for it to qualify for the next round and after that some more for it to make it to the nominees’ list.

ACADEMY SCREENING ROOM

The Academy Screening Room is a paid service where filmmakers from across the globe can submit their projects for screening. A fee of $12,500 (plus the cost of watermarking) is charged and the film is submitted for scrutiny.
