A glimpse at the veteran actress Tanuja’s best films from ‘Hathi mere sathi’ to ‘Jewel Thief’

New Delhi: Veteran Bollywood actress Tanuja Mukherjee is known as Tanuja in the film industry. She is known for her films like ‘Baharen phir bhi ayengi, Jewel thief, hathi mere sathi and anubhav. The actress started her bollywood career as a child artist in 1950 but her actual film in bollywood was ‘Chhabili’. Her elder sister Nutan was already a popular name in the film industry but she made her mark with her talent, elegance and acting skills.

Apart from working in hindi films, she has also worked in marathi, gujarati and bengali films like Zaakol, Teen Bhuvaner Parey, Prothom Kadam phool and Rajkumari.

1- Do Chor (1972)

This romantic comedy became popular due to its melodious music composed by R D Burman. The film was directed by Padmanabh and it stars Dharmendra, Tanuja and K N Singh. The story of the film revolves around a thief tony who get caught by the police after some thefts take place in the city. The thief tony finds out that there is another thief in the city ‘Bob’which is played by Tanuja.

2- Hathi mere Sathi ( 1971) 

The story of the film revolves around the life of an orphan Rajesh Khanna who grew up with elephants. He builds a zoo and keeps all the animals. He later on meets Tanu ( Tanuja) and both decides to get married. The story takes a turn when tanu asks him to choose between them and her.

3-Anubhav (1971)

This is low budget budget film and is based on the life of a married couple Sanjeev Kumar and Tanuja. Things take an ugly turn when Tanuja’s ex lover enters into their lives.

4-Jewel Thief (1967)

Directed by Vijay Anand, the film stars Tanuja, Helen, Anju Mahendru, Ashok Kumar and Dev Anand.

5-Mere Jeevan Sathi (1972)

The film received lot of fame for its song’ O mere dil ke chain’ çhala jata hoon’, ‘ Aao na gale lag jao na’. The story of the film revolves around the life of a painter who falls in love with doctor ( Tanuja). The film is directed by Ravikant Nagaich and has many twists and tales.
