The Kerala Story Twitter Review: Here are first reactions from film buffs

The movie’s plot revolves around forced conversion of 32,000 girls in Kerala, belonging to Hindu & Christian religion, on pretext of marriage and then their trafficking to ISIS-dominated Syria, where they were forced to spend life as ‘sex slaves’.

New Delhi: Adah Sharma starrer ‘The Kerala Story’ needs no introduction as the movie created strong buzz ahead of its release in theatres on May 5.

Though, the movie has pitted section of film watchers & analysts divided over its content, it clocked record advance booking in theatres. According to official numbers released by three multiplex chains namely PVR, InoX and Cinepolis, more than 32,000 tickets have been sold in advance a day prior to its release. This is the fifth highest booking by a Hindi film in the year 2023 and is hence expected to garner good numbers at the Box Office.

The movie’s plot revolves around forced conversion of 32,000 girls in Kerala, belonging to Hindu & Christian religion, on pretext of marriage and then their trafficking to ISIS-dominated Syria, where they were forced to spend life as ‘sex slaves’. There has been heated debate over numbers with many labeling the film as highly lopsided & aimed at polarization, however, the makers have defended the movie claiming that the plot is based on real life story of girls who made a mistake of marrying into another religion and then became ISIS slaves.

The movie, directed by Sudipto Sen under the banner Sunshine Pictures Pvt Ltd, has been produced by Vipul Shah. The film has leading actors in form of Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani, Pranay Pachuri and Chandra Shekhar Dutta.

The Kerala Story released in theatres across the country today. Owing to the strong buzz around movie, many cine buffs & movie goers made it a point to share their experience. Many dubbed the movie as a propaganda spreader while others saw merit in it.
