Throwback to Bollywood 60s & 70s: How Raj Kapoor, Dharmendra & other stars looked then (PICS)

Sam Jawed, co-founder of AltNews gave a rare glimpse of iconic Bollywood stars from 1950-1970s era by sharing their ‘antique pictures’ in black and white. Watching them is nothing less than a visual delight for movie buffs.

If Bollywood actors of modern age are big crowd-pullers, those of ancestral generation were no less than ‘living legends’. From Asha Kumari, Raj Kumar to Shammi Kapoor, they were revered figures for general public and were seen with awe and respect.

Sam Jawed, co-founder of AltNews, a fact-checking website today gave a rare glimpse of iconic Bollywood stars from 1950-1970s era by sharing their ‘antique pictures’.

Taking to her twitter handle, she shared black & white pictures of yesteryear actors & actresses. Watching them is nothing less than a visual delight for movie buffs.

She revealed that she came across this treasure trove in her store room. She says, “her aunt was a big Bollywood fan and thus she had a made an album of big Bollywood icons who also wrote note to her, in response to her fan mails.”

The album is a rich collection of autographed photos and letters by the leading film stars of that time.

Interestingly, her aunt did all this in secrecy as her parents were averse to the thought of following or aligning with film industry.

She wrote on Twitter about her aunt, “As a young girl growing up in a small town in 1950s and 60s, she was completely enamoured by movies. Much to the disapproval of her mother, she spent her free time writing fan mail to movie stars and over a time, built up quite a collection of autographed pictures and letters.”
