Who was Ameen Sayani?

Ameen Sayani was born in Mumbai on 21st December 1932. He was introduced to the world of All India Radio by his brother Hamid Sayani. Ameen Sayani worked for the English Shows for over 10 years. He did his school from the Scindia School and completed his graduation from the St Xaviers college. The legendary Radio announcer was the heart of All India Radio in the 80s era when people had no Saregama, Spotify, no Youtube, or no other access to listen to music. One can hear his voice early morning in almost every house hold. Many house wives used to turn on to their Radio sets in the morning and continue working by listening to his melodious voice.

The Radio used to play for hours and hours along with the iconic songs of Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle, Mohd Rafi and Kishore Kumar. That was the golden era and people of that time can relate to that voice when they used to switch to the radio stations and hear the voice, “Namaskar bhaiyon aur behno, main aapka dost Ameen Sayani bol raha hoon,”

His fans and followers took to social media to share their condolences for the former Radio Announcer.
