Yami Gautam on her skin condition: “It took years to accept it and wear my confidence”

Yami has been a brand ambassador for several beauty products, promoting perfection in beauty standards for some years now.

New Delhi: Yami Gautam has been busy as hell for her shoots of upcoming projects ‘Lost’ and ‘A Thursday’. The actress took some time off from her busy schedule to talk to English news portal mid-day and talked about her upcoming movies and the viral social media post where she talked about her battle with keratosis pilaris since teenage.

When asked about room for creativity amidst busy schedule, Yami said, “I don’t underrate the significance of taking enough prep-time for my characters. When you are so busy, that is hollowed. The quality of work speaks louder than the volume. Every film is an opportunity to get better work. Prep is not just about physical training; it is about being emotionally on the same page as your character. I ensure that I’m aware of my script thoroughly, shade my part with imagination, and nail the body language”.

Speaking of Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury’s Lost, where Yami will be playing a crime reporter she said, “Talking of media’s integrity in current times, it must feel authentic. The characters have to feel familiar. Tonyda [Chowdhury] gives the freedom to be as natural as possible. It makes me proud to be part of a film that stands for certain values. In a fast-paced world driven by competition, emotions don’t hold the same value. ‘Lost’ and ‘A Thursday’ are two films that have made me discover a lot about myself”.

Apart from her films, she’d recently opened up about battling keratosis pilaris since her early days in a viral social media post.  Keratosis pilaris is a skin condition that leaves the skin with small patches and bumps.

Talking of making public appearances with her skin condition, she said, “Writing the post wasn’t difficult; it was liberating. The journey from the time when I learnt of my condition to the day I put the post out, was challenging. When people saw me at shoot, they would talk about how it should be airbrushed or concealed. That would affect me a lot. It took years to accept it and wear my confidence. I was overwhelmed to see the response to the post.”

For the unversed, Yami has been a brand ambassador for several beauty products, promoting perfection in beauty standards for some years now.
