1 killed, 3 injured in firing as Nepal police opens fire near border in Bihar

The confirmation about the firing was made by Sashastra Seema Bal IG of Bihar sector, who described this as a confrontation between locals and Armed Police Force (APF) of Nepal.

New Delhi: Amid the ongoing controversy over Nepal’s new map, the Nepal police on Friday opened firing at Indo-Nepal border in Bihar’s Sitamarhi district.

Vikesh Kumar Rai, 25, died on the spot and Umesh Ram and Uday Thakur received bullet injuries when they were working in an agricultural field. Another person, Lagan Rai, is said to have been detained by the Nepali police, reported a leading portal quoting locals.

The confirmation about the firing was made by Sashastra Seema Bal IG of Bihar sector.

Inspector General (IG) of the Sashastra Seema Bal”s Patna Frontier, Sanjay Kumar, told PTI that the incident took place between locals and the Armed Police Force (APF) of Nepal.

Officials said the locals had a confrontation with the APF over accessing an area near the international border and later, a scuffle took place between the two sides resulting in firing.

Nepal shares a 1,850-kilometre (1,150-mile) open border with India and people travel across it for work and to visit family. It had closed its international borders on March 22 amid the coronavirus pandemic.
