73.61 construction workers registered in 4.5 years: UP govt committed to welfare of migrants

Aiming to improve the livelihood of construction workers, the government has also made the registration compulsory of those construction sites where 10 or more labourers are working.

New Delhi: Committed to providing social security and welfare benefits to the migrant and construction workers, who were the worst hit during the second wave of COVID-19, the State Government has linked them several schemes. In this regard, the UP government waived the fee for registration and renewal and registration of over 73.61 lakh workers, involved in around 40 construction works. This was carried out from 1st April 2017 to 31st July 2021.

Aiming to improve the livelihood of construction workers, the government has also made the registration compulsory of those construction sites where 10 or more labourers are working.

In the case of the construction of residential buildings costing more than Rs 10 lakh, a similar provision has been made. To benefit the workers, the government has also registered 1,23,625 such construction sites from 1st April 2017 to 31st July 2021 to include them in the schemes.

Notably, the state government is already providing a number of beneficiary schemes including maternity, child and girl child help, on the death of a construction worker, disability assistance, and disability pension scheme.

To educate the meritorious children of the labourers and workers, the government has run the Meritorious Students Award Scheme and Sant Ravidas Shiksha Sahayata Yojana.

For the marriage of daughters of labourers, Kanya Vivah Sahayata Yojana has become huge support. The UP government has been continuously making various efforts to improve the livelihood of workers. The aim of the government is to make sure that the benefits of welfare schemes reach the last person standing in society.
