About 1,000 reportedly converted by the racket; UP minister issues stern warning

According to police, the duo are apparently involved in coercively converting around 1000 people to Islam. The duo also revealed during the interrogation that they converted around 250-300 people every year.

New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Police Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) has busted a religious conversion racket and arrested 2 people working with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

The accused were involved in coercively converting hearing and speech impaired children and women to Islam, ADG (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar said on Monday.

2 persons identified as Umar Gautam and Jahangir have been arrested by the UP Police for forceful conversions.

250-300 conversions every year, 1,000 till date

According to police, the duo are apparently involved in coercively converting around 1000 people to Islam. The duo also revealed during the interrogation that they converted around 250-300 people every year.

For effecting forceful conversions, they also received financial support from Pakistan’s ISI. Reports suggest that they used this financial clout to lure people into Islam, in return for monetary benefits & other temptations.

The deaf and mute individuals were particularly chosen from a residential school in Noida. They were converted to Islam with promises of marriage, jobs and some other factors and their families were consciously kept unaware of these developments.

Uttar Pradesh ADG (Law and order) Prashant Kumar said they had evidence that the racket was being funded from abroad.

“Both were arrested after interrogation. We have got important evidence, documents of foreign funding,” he said at a press conference.

The officer further said that the Institution Islamic Dawa Center in Jamia Nagar was created to convert unsuspecting people to Islam in an organised manner. It also sought funds for the purpose.
