New Delhi: Today a delegation of ABVP DELHI and students of IARI met Kailash Chaudary, Union Minister of State, Agriculture regarding the extension of fellowship for 4th year students due to prevailing Covid-19 situation. Lockdown and Covid 19 situation has created barriers to research and lab work, hindering the completion of PhD of students. The honourable minister has positively responded to the request and discussed the issue with DG ICAR.

ABVP-Delhi submitted a letter to the Minister for consideration of vulnerable situation regarding the career and research of students. The said letter contained following points:

As a consequence of prevailing COVID-19 pandemic situation the students of ICAR-IARI are unable to complete their committed research work within stipulated time period. Most of the students have faced problems such as loss of cropping season, spoilage of microbial culture/samples, outsourcing problems such as non-availability of chemicals, technical assistance etc. Some students may have to restart their work from the scratch and hence need at least one more year to complete the research work that is committed in ORW.

Sidharth Yadav, State Secretary, ABVP Delhi said, “We have been taking up the problems faced by research fellows with the concerned ministries and departments. The research work in the field of agriculture depends on the availability of labs and hence has suffered due to COVID-19. It is thus the responsibility of the government to ensure that these problems are addressed and students are given required respite at the earliest. The discussion with honourable minister was fruitful and we received a positive response. We look forward to quick redressal of problems brought to the ministry’s notice by ABVP.”
