After India’s strong protest, 2 arrested Indian High Commission officials released by Pak Police

India summoned the Pakistan charge d”affaires in Delhi and lodged a strong protest over the reported arrest of the two officials.

New Delhi: After India took strong objection and issued demarche to Pak envoy over disappearance of two staffers from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad, the Pakistani police has released the two officials.

Pakistan Police had reportedly arrested 2 Indian High Commission staffers in Islamabad and accused them of involvement in a “hit and run accident”.

Top government sources confirmed that the two Indian staffers were released by Pakistani authorities and they are back at the Indian High Commission.

Earlier in the day, the two officials at Indian mission had left in a vehicle for official duty at around 8:30 AM (IST) but did not reach their destination.

India summoned the Pakistan charge d”affaires in Delhi and lodged a strong protest over the reported arrest of the two officials.

Pakistan charge d”affaires (CDA) was summoned to the Ministry of External Affairs and a demarche was issued to him, making it clear that there should be no interrogation or harassment of the Indian officials and the responsibility for their safety and security lay squarely with the Pakistani authorities.

Indian High Commission officials went missing

Earlier in the day, report said that two senior staffers posted at Indian mission in Islamabad stepped out for some work on Monday morning but didn’t reach their destination. It’s then the high commission officials informed New Delhi and Pakistan’s foreign office.
