New Delhi: Following the rout of Akhilesh Yadav-led rainbow alliance in Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, Om Prakash Rajbhar’s party is likely to make a return to its old ally Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP).

According to sources, parleys are underway in the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) for snapping ties with current SP alliance and return to the BJP fold for its ‘better political prospects’.

The SBSP, led by Om Prakash Rajbhar had fought the 2017 Assembly elections in coalition with BJP and was a partner in Yogi government. Rajbhar served as minister in the Yogi Adityanath cabinet till 2019 but was later removed on reports of ‘anti-alliance activities’.

For 2022 elections, it struck alliance with SP-led alliance and contested elections against BJP-led NDA. Rajbhar, when questioned by scribes, had reiterated his commitment to the community and said he doesn’t shy away from ‘making sacrifices’ for the betterment of the community that gives him votes.

Rajbhar’s meet with BJP leaders set tongues wagging

Speculations are doing rounds that SBSP is likely to return to NDA & may also be rewarded with a ministerial berth.

Rajbhar reportedly met top BJP leaders Amit Shah, Sunil Bansal and Dharmendra Pradhan on Friday and this has set tongues wagging about fresh realignment of political forces in the state.

SBSP chief, when confronted by reporters today about possible switch-over, he again denied the speculations as unwarranted & unsubstantiated.

In the recently concluded UP assembly polls, BJP swept the state with colossal victory, yet again. Out of 403 seats, the BJP led alliance won 273 seats while SP-led alliance were restricted to 125 seats.
