Ahead of US visit, PM Modi speaks on India’s global role, deeper Indo-US ties and his Indianness

PM Modi told the leading US daily that he was the first Prime Minister to be born in free India and his though process & conduct were all inspired by nation’s traditions.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, ahead of first state visit to US, said that there exists unprecedented trust between Indian & American leaders today and the ties between two nations are stronger & deeper than ever.

Ahead of his landmark three-day visit to America, PM Modi spoke exclusively to White Street Journal and spoke a host of issues while also pitching of leadership role for India in global affairs.

“India deserves a much higher, deeper and wider profile and a role,” PM Modi told the publication ahead of US departure.

“We do not see India as supplanting any country. We see this process as India gaining its rightful position in the world,” he further said.

Notably, PM Modi’s state visit to US is being billed as a turning point in bilateral relations of two nations. He is touring the US on invitation of US President Joe Biden & First Lady Jill Biden for a special state visit, a reception that is given to only closest allies.

PM Modi told the leading US daily that he was the first Prime Minister to be born in free India and his though process & conduct were all inspired by nation’s traditions.

“And that’s why my thought process, my conduct, what I say and do, is inspired and influenced by my country’s attributes and traditions. I derive my strength from it,” PM Modi said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday embarked on a historic state visit to United States, where he will be part of several high-profile events, attend summits with CEOs, besides getting red carpet welcome at the White House by the US President & First Lady. In first stop at New York, PM Modi will lead delegation from more than 185 states and member states in performing Yoga asanas at the United Nations Headquarters (HQ), a first by any Prime Minister.
