Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair remanded to 4-day police custody

Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair has been sent into four-days police custody by Delhi’s Patiala House Court.

New Delhi: The hearing on the bail application of Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair was completed in a Delhi court on Tuesday. Zubair has been sent into four-days police custody by the court. Zubair was arrested by the Delhi Police in case of hurting religious sentiments in a tweet made in 2018 on Monday.

The case of Zubair is being fought by Senior Advocate Vrinda Grover. He has been produced before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Snigdha Sarvaria of Delhi’s Patiala House Court.

#Virnda Grover: He is a co-founder Alt News and also works with the company. He does fact check of fake news available on the internet.

#Grover: He enjoys protection from Delhi High Court in 2019. Delhi police said in their status report after the investigation that the tweet was not offensive. That is FIR 194/2020. He was called to join the investigation in that case yesterday.

#Grover: The questioning started at around 5 PM. He signed the notice after the formality was performed. Then Later he was arrested.

#Grover: My client is under attack for his work. He may be challenging the powerful people but that cannot be only reason why he is targeted.

#Grover: My client is being targeted for doing his professional duty of a journalist.

#Grover: I request to please allow me to play the scene so that there is no in the minds of the court. I am not the only one who is opposing remand but I will also be seeeking bail thereafter at the appropriate juncture.

#Prosecutor: He is just informer. He did not hide his details. His details are here. It is not possible to get a Twitter account without giving details. We need to recover laptops and gadgets form which it was posted. This is way police remand is required.

#Court reserved its order which will be pronounced after 20 minutes.
