New Delhi: With Mercury dipping to sub-zero temperature in the hills and cold wave sweeping the plain areas, life has come to a standstill at many places.
As per MeT department, the cold wave conditions are likely to persist in North India at least for next 3 days. The reason behind sudden cold spell is said to be North-westerly winds blowing from Hiamalyas at a wind speed of about 10-15 kmph. It is likely to continue for next 2 days i.e. till December 21.
Temperature has plummeted to below 5 degree in many cities & towns of Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand & Haryana. In Delhi, the temperature dipped to season’s lowest at 3.1 degree Celsius on Sunday morning. In Rajasthan, Churu & Fatehpur recorded ultra-low temperature at – 0.5 degree Celsius & – 1.8 degree Celsius.
Dense fog is likely to prevail in hilly areas including Jammu & Kashmir-Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh on Monday.
