New Delhi: The political fervour goes high as all eyes are on the counting of votes of Assembly elections in five states including Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Manipur, Punjab, and Uttarakhand on Thursday.

The elections occurred in 690 assembly constituencies in the above-mentioned five states. Further counting will also take place for the by-polls held in Majuli in Assam. The counting of votes started at 8 am with postal ballots.

The counting of electronic voting machines (EVM) commenced at 8.30 am today.

Early trends from the counting of votes for Punjab Assembly polls showed the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and an Independent candidate leading in Mukerian and Sultanpur Lodhi constituencies respectively, the latest data by the Election Commission stated.

AAP’s Punjab co-in charge Raghav Chadha said, “We’re ‘aam aadmi’ but when ‘Aam Aadmi’ rises mightiest of thrones shake. Today’s an imp day in India’s history,not only because AAP is winning one more state but because it has become a national force. AAP will become Congress’ replacement”.

As the early reports indicates BJP leading on 3 seats with an Independent leading on 1 seat as per the EC in Manipur, CM N Biren Singh said, “I have prayed to God, that the coming five years would be tantamount to the last 5 years with peace and development and that BJP forms government with full majority”.
